Construction of a new CGP-based boiler house at NLMK Ural in Nizhnie Sergi

In order to ensure that the site’s energy needs were fully met, a CGP-based energy complex was built at NLMK Ural in Nizhnie Sergi.
Prior to executing the project, NLMK Ural production facilities and office buildings and consumers in Nizhnie Sergi received their heat energy from a steam and hot water boiler with an installed capacity of 137 MW. High costs were incurred from purchasing heat energy and electricity from external sources.
The solution was to build a captive energy complex based on co-generation plants. In addition to generating electricity year-round, the gas-piston units have covered the site’s needs for heat energy in the warm and transitional periods of the year, while the hot-water boilers have covered the maximum heat loads in the boiler room’s peak mode.
This project enabled a reduction in heat energy purchases by 27,252 Gcal/year, a reduction in electricity purchases by 30,609 kWh/year, and a reduction in greenhouse gas (СО2) emissions by 2,100 t/year.
Investment totalled RUB 284.5 million. The payback period was 3.2 years. The project was finalized in September 2019.
